WNCG Faculty Member Speaks at Nortel Wireless Forum

Nortel Networks, one of WNCG's Industrial Affiliates sponsors, plays a vital and leading role by convening telecom academic researchers throughout the world through its annual wireless conference for academics. Prof. Ted Rappaport recently attended Nortel Network's 15th annual University Wireless Workshop at Nortel's Ottawa headquarters. The workshop featured presentations and poster sessions from Nortel's sponsored researchers from throughout the world and included presentations by leading executives from Nortel, the National Science Foundation, The One Laptop per Child Foundation and many other global institutions.

At the workshop, Prof. Rappaport presented recent work based on Jeremy Chen's Ph.D. topic of "Site-Specific Knowledge for Wireless Network Control." The work showed five new algorithms for wireless network management, and demonstrated for the first time the enormous gains that network users experience when a centralized network controller uses site-specific environmental information to assign frequency assignments on a dynamic basis.
