WNCG Board Meeting Oct. 14, 2008 WNCG held its annual Board Meeting during the week of the Wireless Summit; in attendance were: David Wolter of AT&T labs, Bruce Montag of Dell, Eric Starkloff and Sean Thompson of National Instruments, Willie Anderson of QUALCOMM, Srinath Hosur of Texas Instruments, Heekwan Lee of Samsung and Jirou Sajiki of Yokogawa. ![]() ![]() Dr. Jeffrey G. Andrews, center Director, kicked off the event by delivering his “State of the WNCG” address. Dr. Andrews provided members with an update on WNCG faculty promotions and awards and also highlighted WNCG’s involvement in leading a number of key academic conferences in the next two years. In addition, he led discussions to elicit key emerging wireless themes that could be explored by WNCG and its affiliate members. Dr. Andrews also indicated that it was WNCG’s goal to hire 3-5 faculty over the next five years; target areas for their research might include wireless system building and experimentation, multimedia signal processing, network science and information theory and multi-disciplinary control theory. Eighteen poster presentations were delivered by WNCG students, along with two demonstration projects: the Hydra MIMO-OFDM network prototype and Proteus: A Mobile Networking Research Tool. A VIP dinner followed at Fogo De Chao in Austin.
