Heath Receives New Faculty Fellowship Award Prof. Robert W. Heath, Jr. received a New Faculty Fellowship to attend the Frontiers in Education Conference, held in Boulder, CO, this past November. Each year FIE invites new engineering and computer science faculty to submit application packets for possible selection as New Faculty Fellows. The winning Fellows are chosen based upon a nomination letter from their chairs, deans or dissertation chairs, along with an applicant-written essay on one or more challenges facing engineering education. A rigorous peer-reviewed application process is used to select the Fellows. The review panel is composed of engineering and computer science faculty from assistant, associate and full professorship levels. Prof. Heath received this award in part based on the paper he co-authored with Dr. Kathy Schmidt of the Faculty Innovation Center entitled "Student Generated Course Demos." This paper describes methods for engaging students in the learning process through development of course demos. These projects serve a dual educational purpose: to teach those students who are creating them and to serve as resources to teach future students. The paper describes some of the challenges of developing student generated educational projects and course demos. |
