SBC Labs and WNCG Advance IEEE 802.16 SBC Laboratories has been collaborating with Prof. Jeff Andrews' research group on 802.16/WiMax technology for the past year. Runhua Chen, a WNCG PhD student co-advised by Prof. Andrews and Prof. Robert Heath, has been sponsored by SBC Labs during this time and will be sponsored again for 2005. A notable outcome of this collaboration is a joint article appearing in the February 2005 edition of the widely read IEEE Communications Magazine, entitled "Broadband Wireless Access with WiMax/802.16: Current Performance Benchmarks and Future Potential". In this article, Dr. Arun Ghosh and David Wolter of SBC Labs join Andrews and Chen in explaining the current performance for future IEEE 802.16-compliant wireless broadband systems, since marketing claims have been widely exaggerated. Additionally, key research areas for 802.16 are identified, some of which are the subject of Mr. Chen's PhD research. |
