Bovik Named Optical Society of America Fellow

WNCG faculty member, Prof. Al Bovik was elected Fellow of the Optical Society of America for “fundamental research contributions to and technical leadership in digital image and video processing,” according to its website. He is among 58 OSA members who were elevated to the rank of fellow by the Board of Directors at its meeting in October 2006.

Alan Bovik received the B.S. degree in Computer Engineering in 1980, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1982 and 1984, respectively, all from the University of Illinois , Urbana-Champaign.

He is currently the Curry/Cullen Trust Endowed Chair in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, where he is the Director of the Laboratory for Image & Video Engineering. He has published over 300 technical articles in these areas and holds two U.S. patents. He is also the editor/author of the Handbook of Image and Video Processing, published by Academic Press in April of 2000.
