WNCG Student Awarded Best Paper at Globecom 2006

Mr. Kaibin Huang, a WNCG Ph.D. student, received the Best Student Paper award in the category of Communication Systems at IEEE Globecom 2006, held in San Francisco in November and December of 2006. Co-authors include Kaibin’s advisers WNCG Professors Jeff G. Andrews and Robert W. Heath Jr. along with Dr. Bishwarup Mondal, a WNCG alumni.

The award was based on both reviewers’ comments and on-site presentation evaluation. The paper, titled “Multi-Antenna Limited Feedback for Temporally Correlated Channels: Feedback Compression,” proposes an algorithm for compressing feedback of channel state information in a wireless multi-antenna system by exploiting channel temporal correlation. The proposed algorithm has applications in the next-generation communication systems such as IEEE 802.16e and 3GPP-LTE.

IEEE Globecom is one of the two flagship conferences of the IEEE communication society. Over 1000 papers were presented at and over 1500 researchers attended the Globecom 2006.
