Rappaport appointed to second term with U.S. Federal Communications Commission

Theodore Rappaport, professor of electrical and computer engineering, was appointed to serve on the Federal Communications Commission's Technological Advisory Committee (FCC TAC) for a second time. 

The Federal Communications Commission's Technological Advisory Committee, a division of The Office of Engineering and Technology (OET), advises the Commission concerning engineering matters. Their mission is to “manage the spectrum and provide leadership to create new opportunities for competitive technologies and services for the American public”.   The purpose of the TAC is to provide technical advice to the Federal Communications Commission and to make recommendations on the issues and questions presented to it by the FCC.

Dr. Rappaport holds over 100 patents issued or pending and has authored, co-authored and co-edited 18 books in the wireless field.  He received his degrees from Purdue University and served on the Virginia Tech electrical and computer engineering faculty for fourteen years before joining the University of Texas at Austin faculty in the fall of 2002. He is the founding director of the Wireless Networking and Communications Group, a university research and teaching center dedicated to the wireless communications field.
