Heath and Andrews visit Nortel in Ottawa

WNCG faculty members Robert Heath and Jeff Andrews flew to Ottawa, Canada to visit WNCG Affiliate Nortel on May 23-24th. Heath and Andrews spoke in Nortel's Distinguished Lecture Series on May 24th to about 250 live and video conference attendees. Prof. Heath's lecture was entitled “Cooperation in Wireless Communications,” and discussed the role of cooperation for improving broadband wireless access networks. Prof. Andrews's lecture on ad hoc network capacity was entitled “Meeting DARPA's Grand Challenge: Non-equilibrium information theory.”

Their visit was hosted by Dr. Wen Tong and Dr. Peiying Zhu who are the director of Nortel's wireless R&D center, and the manager of their cellular technology projects. The visit also included many discussions with Nortel's R&D engineers on emerging trends in wireless networking, including relay and mesh networks, ad hoc networks, and feedback issues for MIMO. Both sides are hopeful that new collaborative research will result from this visit.
