WNCG Faculty Visit QUALCOMM

In late January, four WNCG faculty members: Profs. Jeff Andrews, Constantine Caramanis, Sanjay Shakkottai, and Sriram Vishwanath, traveled to the corporate research headquarters in San Diego, California. The WNCG faculty were hosted by Mark Strausakas, Jack Holtzman, Uma Jha, Brian Butler and others, including Sai Shankar who followed up the WNCG visit with a trip to Austin the following week, to attend the WNCG Open House on February 8, 2007.

After a brief WNCG overview by Prof. Andrews, the WNCG faculty presented recent research results on ad hoc networks, ITMANET and the DARPA grand challenge, as well as capacity of inhomogenous networks, cognitive radio, and adaptable optimization. Ashawin Sampath from Qualcomm led a discussion on Ad Hoc Networks that served as a launch-pad for one-on-one research discussions with the companies’ research engineers.
