WNCG Sees Record Number of Graduates

Four years after its inception, students who started their graduate studies with the Wireless Networking and Communications Group are graduating this year. These graduates have been among the first set of students to join  WNCG almost from its inception and are looking at diverse of career paths.

Dr. Aamir Hasan , will be teaching courses in the ECE department this summer as an adjunct faculty before he returns home to Pakistan where he will work as an associate professor for the Pakistan Air Force.

Aamir enjoyed his time with the group, stating, “I joined WNCG in the Fall of 2002; which means that I became part of WNCG right from its inception. It has been a sheer pleasure to see it grow over the years in to a wireless center that now has the potential to lead both academia and industry in the wireless research. This success is a true example of a team work that comprises of faculty, students and the WNCG staff.”

Dr. Taiwen Tang will join Marvell Inc. as a senior member of their technical staff after graduation and believes WNCG was crucial in helping achieve goals and grow as a student, “ WNCG helped me a lot in research and learning during my graduate studies. There were a lot of discussions with the WNCG professors and students. I have received a lot of advice from them that benefited my research. It is great to be part of the group that made up of the best professors, students and staff members.”

Dr. Yung Yi will join Princeton and work with Prof. Mung Chiang as a postdoctoral research associate starting from Aug, 1, 2006 after graduation. At Princeton , he will be expected to work on applying optimization theory and applied stochastics to computer networking and communications research.

“One of nicest things as a member of WNCG is that by hanging out with students who have different cultural backgrounds and various expertise in communication and networking research, I came to understand what is happening outside my cultural boundary,” said Yi.

Dr. Shailesh Patil said, "When I started graduate school in Fall 2002 WNCG was in the process of being formed. Over the years I have increasingly seen the advantage of working as a group. It provided me with a great opportunity to not only interact with researchers in different areas but also exposure to people from industry."

Dr. Bishwarup Mondal looks to the future and a position with Motorola Labs in Shaumburg , Il . “Its time to move. WNCG has been my home since the summer of 2003 when I started working with Prof. Robert W. Heath, Jr. for my graduate studies. This summer, I am graduating to a new life.”

Dr. Antonio Forenza will join Rearden Inc after graduation.

Dr. Manish Airy will start work with Beceem Communications, a broadband wireless chip startup company.

Dr. Umesh Rajashekhar is currently working as a post-doc at the University of Texas but will soon be taking a post-doc position at New York University .

Dr. Zukang Shen is currently working as a systems engineer with Texas Instruments, an affiliate company in the WNCG program.
