Prof. Brian Evans to Co-Chair Technical Programs for IEEE Workshops

Prof. Brian Evans, a WNCG faculty member and ECE professor, will be co-chairing the technical programs for two upcoming IEEE Workshops in 2004.

The first of these workshops is the IEEE 2004 Workshop on Signal Processing Systems (SIPS'04). SIPS'04 will be held from October 13-15, 2004 in Austin, TX. The theme for SIPS'04 is Systems-on-a-Chip for wireless networking. Next generation wireless networks will be highly versatile covering a wide range of applications from high throughput data applications to low cost and low power wireless sensor networks; handling a variety of channel and traffic conditions; and meeting a wide range of spectral efficiency and coverage requirements. Such networks will require careful system optimization throughout the network stack - physical layer, MAC layer, as well as applications - coupled with efficient and highly flexible VLSI implementations. Accordingly, SIPS'04 will emphasize topics such as innovative VLSI architectures for physical layers (e.g. Ultra Wide-Band (UWB), OFDM, CDMA) and their inter-networking, systems for wireless packet communications, and interesting system-level tradeoffs of parameters such as power consumption, range, throughput, and spectral efficiency. SIPS'04 will focus on topics at the convergence of signal processing theory, VLSI architectures, communication networks, and integrated circuit implementation of wireless networks. The workshop will feature world-class keynote and invited talks and an evening panel session. Deadline for submitting papers is April 30, 2004. The call for papers for this workshop is available online at http://www.spsworkshops.com/SiPS2004.

Prof. Evans will also be serving as the technical co-chair for the 2004 IEEE Digital Signal Processing Workshop and Workshop on Signal Processing Education. The workshop will be held in Taos Ski Valley, in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Northern New Mexico, August 1-4, 2004. The goals of these two workshops are to unite top researchers from around the world to discuss novel signal processing theories and methods, and to bring together world-class educators and thinkers to discuss all aspects of signal processing education. The list of plenary speakers will include Gene Frantz (Principal Fellow, Texas Instruments) and Jim Truchard (CEO of National Instruments). Each workshop will also feature technical sessions for presenting contributed papers. The deadline for submitting papers to the DSP 2004 workshop is February 29, 2004. More information is available on their website at http://www.dsp2004.nmsu.edu.
