Wireless Disaster Relief Added to Texas Wireless Symposium Panel to Highlight Wireless Relief in the Aftermath of Katrina and Rita The Texas Wireless Symposium announced it is adding a new panel on wireless disaster relief, addressing how wireless technology played a critical role in the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The panel will be moderated by Chris Guttman-McCabe, vice president Regulatory Affairs, for CTIA - the Wireless Association. Mr. McCabe was directly involved with coordination and support efforts conducted by CTIA to facilitate relief efforts on behalf of the wireless industry. The Texas Wireless Symposium, October 26-28, 2005, in Austin, TX., is produced by the Wireless Networking and Communications Group (WNCG), part of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Texas at Austin and the Austin Wireless Alliance (AWA). "The addition of this panel will provide a unique opportunity for our attendees to hear first hand how wireless communications played a critical role in recent disaster relief efforts along the US gulf coast," said Erin Defosse, chairman of AWA. This panel will prompt discussion and questions for all on who attend. "The wireless industry has been instrumental in helping to re-establish communications for communities and government organizations in the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. I am pleased to be involved in the Texas Wireless Symposium and I look forward to bringing this panel together to discuss what was done on the front line of the disaster areas, what lessons were learned and how we can improve future planning," said Chris Guttman-McCabe. The wireless disaster relief panel will take place Wednesday, October 26 at 3:30 pm at the Driskill Hotel. For more information and to register for the event please visit www.wncg.org/symposium | ||
