WNCG Student’s Summer Internship with Freescale

Ian C. Wong, a Ph.D. student under the direction of Prof. Brian Evans, spent the summer as a Graduate Research Intern with the Advanced Technology division in the Wireless Mobile and Systems Group of Freescale Semiconductor, Inc., a WNCG affiliate.  During this internship, he developed new techniques for optimal resource allocation in OFDMA and SC-FDMA wireless systems for the 3GPP-LTE standard.  He also looked at novel ways of applying his channel prediction research to improve the performance of a wireless communications link.  His work resulted in two patent disclosures and a 3GPP-LTE standards contribution.

Ian returned this Fall 2006 semester to complete his PhD dissertation on "Optimal Resource Allocation and Channel Prediction for OFDMA Systems". His research interests span areas in statistical signal processing and optimization for wireless communication systems. His web address is : www.ece.utexas.edu/~iwong
