Austin's Wireless Industry Future Contemplated by New Business Study

August 4, 2003

Austin, Texas is poised to become one of the world's leading cities for wireless communications companies. University of Texas engineering and business leaders are helping to forge a new technical community for companies that play a role in the future of wireless communications, and are working to help central Texas learn about the intellectual capital and core competencies that exist in Austin.

Led by IC2, a think tank and entrepreneurial business program at the University of Texas, a new business study called "The Wireless Future" has identified over 70 Austin companies that currently serve the wireless industry. UT's Wireless Networking and Communications Group (WNCG) and the College of Engineering Entrepreneur Chair at UT are helping with the study. At the same time, the Austin Wireless Alliance (AWA) and Austin Wireless have sprung up as grass roots efforts by wireless technologists within Austin to help business, technical, and educational leaders share knowledge while building up business opportunities and awareness within Austin.
